Katie Chiou
Brown University

Katie is a senior at Brown University in the Program in Liberal Medical Education where she is studying Science, Technology, and Society with a focus in anthropology and mental health. She is particularly interested in mental illness and how trauma informs the experience of immigrant mental health and how that is explored in writing. As a student in the PLME program, she is planning to continue her study of medicine at Alpert Medical School. Outside her studies, Katie is the coordinator of the Peer Mental Health Advocates as part of Project LETS, works as a research assistant on several projects including suicidality in young adults, public health, and opioid addiction. Due to the increase in time at home, Katie is teaching herself to cook and has experimented on her family members quite enough - they are tired of her overuse of soy sauce.
